NANCY’S PROJECT

How It Began

LCHS parishioner Nancy Helzing valiantly fought cancer and suffered painful burns, a side effect of radiation therapy. One of the best ways to soothe the pain was aloe. So in 2009, Nancy envisioned a new ministry: growing aloe vera plants for members of our community fighting cancer, as well as patients at the Alexian Brothers Cancer Institute where Nancy was both a patient and volunteer.

With her help and determination, Nancy’s Project was born. Nancy now rests with our Lord in Heaven. We at Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit truly appreciate the staff and doctors at the Alexian Brothers Cancer Institute who assist us in this ministry.

To Obtain a Plant

If you or someone you know is fighting cancer and could use an aloe vera plant to help provide some relief from radiation burns, please contact our church office at 847-437-5867

Return the card attached to the plant and you will be included in the prayers of our congregation, and, if so desired, contacted by our Pastor.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to those individuals battling this horrible disease.
